Over our many successful years in the stainless steel and glass manufacturing industry, we at Innovative Stainless Steel Designs have been asked many questions about our products and services. Our expert team is always available during business hours to answer your queries, but you can also leave us a message using the online form on our contact page.
Many of the questions that we are asked follow a common theme, so for our visitor’s convenience we have included them here in two distinct categories.
Selecting a Contractor
When it comes down to deciding who is best able to fulfil your stainless steel and glass balustrades, pool fencing, and staircase requirements, we highly recommend you perform a little due diligence. To this end, we have shared some of the many frequently asked questions concerning this highly crucial phase in the planning of your project.
We can’t profess to have all of the answers, but we do consider that our extensive industry experience and outstanding success record in exceeding our customer’s expectations gives us some credence. Take a look through the list of questions below and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries.
Does the company have the correct Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) licences to complete your project?
They must hold a current QBCC licence and readily display their licence number on all quotes, invoices, business cards, website and all other marketing material. Secondly, check that the licence number corresponds to the company in question; that it is current; and that it is appropriate for the kind of work to be carried out. A licence check can be completed at: https://www.qbcc.qld.gov.au/licensee-search.
What is the company’s reputation like? How long has the company been in business?
What is their relationship like with their past clients? Do they have testimonials readily available and are happy to show their workmanship? Innovative Stainless Steel Designs has been in operation since August 2002, specialising in pool fencing and internal and external balustrading within the building industry. We complete projects for government, private commercial, and residential sectors and have an enviable reputation within the industry.
Does the company have the correct insurances and adequate coverage in case of damage or accident?
A building contractor must be fully insured with at least workers’ compensation and public liability insurances. If not, you could be vulnerable should any accidents or injuries occur during or after construction. Innovative Stainless Steel Designs is correctly insured as per legal requirements. Workplace Health and Safety audits are completed regularly at the workshop and onsite to ensure the safety of our employees, customers and general public.
Do the company’s installers and manufacturing staff hold relevant and current Australian Trade Qualifications?
Innovative Stainless Steel Designs does not subcontract and all our employees hold the correct qualifications for the scope of work that we offer.
Will the company provide a form 16 Compliance Certificate or Form 15 glazing certificate as required to pass final building certification?
Without these certificates, your certifier will not endorse the final certificate for your project. Upon completion of your project, Innovative Stainless Steel Designs can supply you with the relevant Australian Standard compliant certificates for the products we supply and install.
Can the company provide you with a milling certificate to guarantee that the stainless steel you have purchased is in fact 316 marine grade stainless steel?
Many companies claim to use 316 marine grade stainless, but only a Milling Certificate will prove this claim. If the stainless steel is not up to standards, premature ‘tea staining’ will occur, tarnishing your product and resulting in endless cleaning and maintenance. Innovative Stainless Steel Designs only uses the highest quality and grade stainless steel to ensure your project stands the test of time in finish, look and strength and we can provide you with a certificate to prove it.

Are you comparing ‘apples with apples’?
What specific items have been included in your quotation/contract in comparison to your quote provided by us at Innovative Stainless Steel Designs?
If you are having glass balustrades installed, is the company using ready-made panels?
Many companies are using ‘pool fence panels’ that are purchased in bulk from overseas. These ready-made panels may not comply with Australian Standards and Regulations for balustrading. A genuine concern is that these panels have inadequate or insufficient fixing points to ensure the panels are secured in place correctly. Innovative Stainless Steel Designs individually assess each stair and balustrade project and if appropriate will use only custom made glass panels from Australian suppliers to make certain that all glass panels comply with all the relevant standards and regulations, resulting in a structurally sound product. Also, there will soon be Australian Standards and Regulations outlawing the use of these.
If you are having glass pool fencing installed, what gate system have they quoted for (hinge type, quality and glass thickness)?
Do they comply with the current regulations and Australian Standards for pool fencing? Tougher pool fencing regulations have recently come into effect. Innovative Stainless Steel Designs continually keep up to date with the latest on regulatory changes and updates.
For any external projects including pool fences: Are they using 316 Marine Grade or a higher grade Polished Stainless Steel?
Anything less and you will have ‘tea staining’ issues within a couple of months resulting in tarnishing of your product and ensuring constant cleaning and maintenance. Ask for a Milling Certificate for your stainless steel hardware.
